Today Apple announced the latest latest tower Intel Macs  - 8 core 3Mhz Intel Xeon. This represents a perfect machine for doing professional post-production. The two multiple core Intel Xeon processors allow the new machine to be 1.4 times faster than even the QUAD G5 for Final Cut Pro Dv rendering, and 1.3x on HD encoding. And that is comparing it to the Quad G5. In Maya the machine is 3.1 x times faster rendering, & it is the perfect machine for the upcoming CS3 new AE, as it can provide large enough RAM to each Proc. to maximise performance.

The new Mac Pros can be bought as either a two Quad-Core or two Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors. Running at up to 3.0GHz. Based on Intel’s Core microarchitecture and designed for systems with multiple processors, the two 64-bit Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Clovertown” processors in the new 8-core Mac Pro run at 3GHz.

And the 64-bit Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors that power the quad-core Mac Pro run at clock speeds of 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz. That translates to up to 2x the performance of the Power Mac G5 Quad.1

Options

Expansion options are key with post-production —  for audio DSP solutions or video capture cars or even data acquisition devices, and Fibre Channel cards — the Mac Pro accommodates with three full-length PCI Express expansion slots. You can even adjust the PCI Express bandwidth on your system to meet your specific needs. What’s more, the double-wide, 16-lane PCI Express graphics slot brings an end to sacrificing a slot in favor of better graphics. Mac Pro lets you have high-performance graphics, two 30-inch Cinema HD Displays, and all three expansion slots at the same time.

Mac Pro comes with four 3Gb/s internal SATA hard drive bays, each on its own independent channel. While the standard configuration comes with a single 250GB drive, you can fill yours with up to four 750GB SATA hard drives for up to 3 terabytes of lightning-fast data storage. Using Mac OS X, you can stripe two, three, or all four of those drives in a RAID 0 array to increase performance and create a massive volume for video editing; or create a RAID 1 array for instant backups — as you work — of your other digital media.

3 terabytes gives you 6 hours of uncompressed HD 1920x 1080 video and 252 hours of digital video.
